Corny as it may sound, the words "What is this world coming to?" flashed through mu mind when I read the title of the op.
News like this would be horrifying coming from anyplace, but it's somehow more... startling coming from the UK than from it would be coming from some other parts of the world. Sadly, it kind of lines up with a lot of things that have been happening in the UK in recent years with regard to the trans community, but it's horrifying nonetheless.
To all our DU trans members: please know that I stand with you all and grieve with you over this. 
To everyone in general: THIS SUCKS!!!!!
