Last November I got dragged along to the Harry Potter Exhibition in Sydney not knowing the first thing about it, and horrified my sister by musing that Bellatrix must be a pretty cool character. So I got the Harry Potter box-set for xmas and ordered not to watch it till I'd read the books 
I'm no help on the easy yet not simple reading. I just turned round and checked out my bookcase and it's groaning under books on the Middle East and stuff by Chomsky and Benny Morris. I'll keep an eye out for the game of thrones, though, coz once I'm done with Potter, I wouldn't mind something else lightweightish compared to what I usually read...
