opossums, woodrats, armadillos, and non-human primates can become infected and reservoirs. Only birds and reptiles are clearly nonsusceptible.

In both humans and animals, our ability to diagnose via blood testing is poor, especially in the acute and middle stages. Unfortunately, treatments are poorly effective, with most geared towards treating the organ damage (e.g., heart failure). At least in animals, the systemic and topical treatments to prevent fleas, ticks, mosquitoes (heartworm) have some benefit against the vector insects that transmit Chagas.

Climate change is going to kill in so many ways, including many that most people have never even heard of. sigh...
