1. I don't think that's particularly new

They've always known that the fatigue and depression are cytokine associated. While they're protective in injury and infection, promoting rest during recovery, they're maddening with any chronic illness we could probably cope with quite nicely without them.

While there are drugs that promote alertness during the day, the side effects are often such that medical science tells us we'd better just lump it and try to figure out how to cope.

Someday they'll figure out how to suppress the production of those nasty little cytokines. Someday they'll figure out how to cure these damned diseases. Someday...
