You get Part A (hospital coverage) automatically, part B you have to sign up for and pay for (unless you have Medicaid, then you don't pay). Part C is Medicare Advantage plans (HMO's) and Part D is prescription drug coverage. Of course if you have a lot of health issues, you may be better off with a Medicare Supplement - but you need Part B to get this, I believe.
