Concerns about my daughter's gym class - sanity check [View all]

My sophomore daughter just had her first day of school. She was a little upset about something her new Phys-Ed teacher told the class. Apparently the teacher said they will NEVER have class inside and will ALWAYS have it outside, rain or shine, no matter what.

This is a very new and modern school with a beautiful inside gym and AC. I don't understand the point of this rule of hers. We live in southern California. It was 102 degrees outside here today. Their outdoor Phys Ed areas have no shade. None. Her gym class is at 2:00pm, the hottest part of the day. Also, we are expecting a ferocious El Nino here this winter. Can this teacher seriously think the kids should be outside in the pouring rain and hail?

I've never been over protective or the kind of parent to get upset about things easily and have never called the school or principal to complain about anything but I'm seriously thinking of raising a big stink if this teacher really goes through with this. But first I thought I'd ask you all for a sanity check.....do you think it's ok for kids to be exercising in the sun in 102 degree weather? Would you think it's ok for your kid to be outside exercising when a thunderstorm is pouring down rain and hail?
