I hope how this day started isn't an omen for how the rest will go. [View all]

I was nudged awake, as usual, at about 5 (a little early) and figured it was Merlin. Got up and sang the meal song but notice Merlin wasn't rushing in to the kitchen, as usual. Dished up the food and still no Merlin so I started searching, in an increasing state of panic. Sian was about Merlin's age when she crossed the Rainbow Bridge and I'm pretty sure she was Merlin's sister. That thought sent my panic meter well past overdrive. I searched and searched, anxiety going off the charts. Where could he be? What would I find?

There's a flip security lock on the front door and I noticed it wasn't in the lock position. Last night I stepped out on the porch, for just a second, and then went back inside. Apparently Merlin had slipped out there with me but I hadn't turned on the light so I didn't notice. I immediately opened the door and there was my sweet boy. He had been on that porch ALL NIGHT and it was pretty hot. Normally I check for him before closing the door but I thought he was in another room and it was such a quick outdoor peek.

He has now eaten and I filled the water 'trough' with fresh water. he going to be treated like a celebrity, today. Even more than usual.

My heart rate has finally gone down and I'm going to do my best to release all of this panic fueled adrenaline.

I feel like the worst Cat Mama in the world, right now.
