kitty when we started letting her out after about a year..never without us..but she was black..so when she came outside with us..we watched her like a hawk..invariably she would slink off..we searched one night for about an hour..yes, she was older than Carys..but in the morning she was curled up in the chair on the back patio..she had not spent a night outside before..

I was frantic..but for some reason I knew she wasn't far..they say, a cat will travel, but they have a close-by circular path..as you say, IF she did get out..she is familiar with your scent and putting food out should work..but I don't have to tell you that..
