Lake effect snow comes in bands of heavy snow with lighter snowfall in between the heavy bands. The directions shift. The strength of the wind changes. Local radio is predicting only a few inches of accumulation today for my city, but a foot or more for outlying areas, with additional accumulation tomorrow and Sunday.

Since the snow comes in bands of varying thickness and the wind direction and strength change so much during lake effect snow, the only thing we know for sure is that the snow will fall continuously from now until Monday morning.
