Hunters use higher velocity rounds to humanely take game. A low velocity round is more likely to injure an animal, not kill it. Depending on the velocity you want to set, of course, but velocity decreases with range, making hunting out west an almost impossibility, as wide open spaces don't allow you to get close to game.
