it was a compilation of existing research projects. It included the widely debunked Kleck 'research' that claimed 2 million DGUs a year. Among the flaws found in that "study" were no controls for false positives or negatives and the lack of control for gun owners vs non gun owners when extrapolating from the study to the general population. In other words, it wasn't a 'study' so much a telephone poll. As evidence for it's exaggerated claims one citation showed that the number of estimated woundings of assailants was larger than the total number of gunshot wounds treated in the year of the poll was taken.

So, yeah, those numbers still get included in various reports but no reliable statistician accepts them.

As an aside, when it is pointed out that only 30% of those surveyed own guns the gunners all say that nobody would tell a telephone poll that they own a gun, so the polls are faulty. On the other hand gunners openly and enthusiastically embrace Kleck's numbers gleaned from a . . . telephone poll. Why's that?
