The article's first paragraph:

Gun-related deaths among children in the U.S. reached a distressing peak in 2021, claiming 4,752 young lives and surpassing the record total seen during the first year of the pandemic, a new analysis of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data found.

My specific research on the CDC's site confirms the number 4,752. This is across the 19 and under age group. I'm not a fan of describing "teens" as "children".

Currently, the CDC's (WISQARS™ —) Web-based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System is not responding and indicates that data from 2021 is being integrated into the various pages, reports and databases.

I do remember that half or more of the deaths were among the older ages.
