work with Civil Rights. Like Recy Taylor, Rosa lived a long life into her 90s passing away in 2005. In 2013 during the 50th anniversary of Selma & 1963 March on Washington, PBS ran programs on issues & figures of the period incl. Rosa Parks.
To help with learning the history there more articles, news, books & quality films of late- "Selma', 'The Butler', 'The Loving Story,' Kerry Washington's portrayal of Anita Hill, Recy Taylor's story. Oprah has acted in and is associated with some of these efforts.
For years Rosa Parks & husband Raymond quietly worked with the NAACP on cases but also suffered harassment from law enforcement & local goons. The couples' jobs were at risk, Raymond's health impacted and in 1957 they relocated to live and work in the Michigan district of U.S. Rep. John Conyers. Despite all, their contributions & sacrifices are remarkable.

Def. need a pres. candidate with govt. & public service background, related qualifications. Oprah Winfrey might not even announce. I think the reaction is additionally strong b/c of the election of This 1st President, 'TV' Entertainment personality (apart from Reagan, Schwartzenegger, Jesse Ventura), and obvious fear it could open gates for more celebs in govt. over qualified persons with actual political experience.
No outcry over Mark Cuban, Tom Steyer possibly running, hmm. More than a wealthy celebrity, Oprah's regarded by many as an excellent businessperson, manager, major philanthropist, avid reader who knows issues and one dedicated to projects that improve peoples lives worldwide. To define her by associations w Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz & Jenny McCarthy and their questionable practices is BS; well known are many loyal admirers & some haters.
One comment I saw was on her early journalistic work. Indeed, the youngest & only black journalist at a television station in Nashville, an evening news anchor in Baltimore, picked up for the "Am Chicago" show which began her career rise with the successful daytime show. ..We'll see, the 2020 lineup won't be long now.
Postscript. HRC with a lifetime of policy and govt. experience recently losing to T., and the notion that another woman and celeb, w/o any govt. background potentially running as a Dem. is a lot to handle.
