Hello:
I know this thread is several years old but I have only just read (listened to, actually) this novel. It was beautifully read by the author and I now find myself still left in the afterglow of the story, still thinking about the characters. Because I listened, rather than read, the story I wondered if I had missed some information. Do you remember if Delphine ever learned what eventually happened to Clarisse? Also, if Roy knowingly shut Chavers in the cellar, to which Delphine believes he confessed, why was Clarisse so concerned about the beads cemented into the crevice around the cellar door? If she wore that dress on that day, it wouldn't really be suspicious to find beads from the dress which, as I understood it, Hock himself ripped. Also, who dug up the dress and put it on Step and a Half's porch? Did Hock dig up the dress and plant the beads in Clarisse's bedroom? I'm sorry if I sound thick-headed about this, I am just wondering if I may have missed some of the story.
I know it has been years since you read this book, but I am having a hard time finding a current discussion.
Thanks,
annkas
