N.Korean hackers steal cryptoassets worth $620 million [View all]

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that two groups of North Korean hackers are responsible for stealing 620 million dollars in cryptoassets.

The FBI issued a statement on Thursday that said, "Lazarus Group and APT38, cyber actors associated with North Korea, are responsible for the theft reported on March 29."

The Washington Post reported that to hack video game Axie Infinity, which rewards players with cryptoassets, the hackers infiltrated part of the underlying blockchain that powers the game.

The Lazarus Group and APT38 are believed to be associated with North Korea's Reconnaissance General Bureau, which is Pyongyang's foreign intelligence service.
The FBI said that it will continue to combat the country's use of illicit activities, including cybercrime and cryptorcurrency theft.
