1. Yeah, I'd cut them some slack

There's been a lot of pressure on them to speak out against Putin. It's commonplace in North America to expect the people to add their voices to a cause, but these Russian athletes/celebrities have family back at home who will quite possibly be at risk of harm if there are anti-Putin statements coming out of their mouths.

I put myself in Ovechkin's shoes (or skates) and I would be very cautious about condemning the shithead Russian president publicly when I know it could consequently be the last time I ever see some of my relatives back in the homeland because they suddenly go missing.
