He's taking the part with him to the dismantler's as I write this. Fingers crossed that he finds an identical one.
We'd still like to know what it is and what it does, especially since identification has been so elusive. If we can't even figure that out, how is he supposed to know if any replacement he gets is a good one?
Me, I'd have it at the dealer by now, even if there's a charge for "consultation," just to save all this hassle.
