2. Good for you! I have robins who have returned year after year, and they seem to always build nests or reuse

the old nests on my gutters/down sprouts, and so I leave the old nests there for them and they do reuse them. They will eventually fall apart and fall off the gutters when totally used up, and that is when I will carefully remove them. They have been coming for years, and it's a sign of spring for us when we see the two of them. An enjoyable spring ritual.

I also have blue jays too (two also) that come all of the time, but they don't really live in my yard, just in the alley somewhere. I 'click' at them al of the time and they seem to chirp back. Overall, this is a nice ritual we go through every year.
