7. The top teams need to meet the expectations of the people who do the rankings.

Alabama was favored by 50 points. If they won by 24, they would have “underperformed” in the eyes of the ranking body.

BTW - there have been enough come-from-behind, beat-ridiculous-odds victories in sports the past few decades that there’s no room to “be nice” and not score points that are easy to score. Victory is everything. That last thing any team needs is to be ahead by 30, decide to “be nice” and end up losing. Auburn was up 28 to 3 over Mississippi today and lost 43-34.

The real problem is scheduling powerhouse teams to play far inferior teams. Soft schedules shouldn’t exist for the top teams. It’s called SOS, Strength of Schedule.
