Are you buying it as a piece of history or collectible? Or are you buying simply to shoot?

As strictly a shooter, I don't think of the P38 as an especially good gun. The trigger is heavy and the sights are miitary and thus not very good for target work.

Also a Walther P38/P1 post war for $399 NIB is either a real steal or you are being taken for a ride. 2011 Blue Book indicates a 100% P38 to be worth $800; $675 for a P1
