Pop Culture fluff: Moana shoes, fertility icons? [View all]
Young (pre-teen) niece is having a Moana themed birthday, and we are upgrading a pair of Disney shoes for her with alternating cowrie shells and red beads.

It struck me what the shells might resemble, and a little online search confirmed them.
So, ..? Am I doing something embarrassing, or just exposing an embarrassing level of ignorance by asking?
