mucous membranes, (it does a FABULOUS job at that) but it plumps the skin. I take it for to help with the dry eye I get due to Sarcoidosis & as long as I take it regularly, it outshines all the prescription eyedrops etc that I've used to prevent that gritty, itchy & painful feeling. My eyes get so dry that the vessels inthe conjuctiva rupture and I literally end up with what looks like bloody eyes, (NOT just bloodshot eyes but the sclera of my eyes are actually bloody looking). I also have surgical menopause and have no problem with my "hoo-haw" being dry.
I would recommend the liquid that comes in bottles and it's usually fruit flavored but SUPER sweet tasting. If that version doesn't work for you, you can get it in capsules BUT you'll have to more than what the bottle says because I take a tsp 2X a day of the liquid. As long as you're not diabetic, the liquid works the best.
