3. My dad was a survivor of Auschwitz

He was from Zawierce, Poland and never wanted to go back because his neighbors betrayed him. He said the Ukrainian guards in the camps were extraordinarily brutal.
That said, he did not believe in generational guilt and although he died 18 years ago, I'm sure he would be appalled by Putin's cruelty (and Trump’s). He was profoundly disappointed that after the Holocaust, the world didn't really get much better.
