3. I wonder if they'd find it in populations in the Rockies

They start showing up in March and early April and this area has had snowstorms in the first week of May because of the altitude. In addition, desert nights can be damned cold, even when the sun makes the days fairly balmy.

It might be an avenue of research for a bored ornithologist who'd like to live out west for a bit.
