Police chiefs respond to concerns over handling of local sexual assaults

For the first time since the group's creation last year, members of Ohio University activist student organization, F**kRapeCulture (FRC), met with both local chiefs of police in Athens last week.

Athens Police Chief Tom Pyle confirmed that he, Ohio University Police Chief Andrew Powers and organizers from FRC met Tuesday to discuss concerns the group has voiced about how both police departments treat victims of sexual assault, and how the two agencies investigate crimes of sexual assault and rape.

Pyle said Thursday that he was aware of FRC's concerns, and of a public Google Drive document that FRC has kept, which solicits information from survivors of sexual assault on campus...

...The document lists four incidents, all involving the APD, where alleged survivors (the document is free to post on anonymously) detail stories of treatment that they felt was inappropriate on the part of Athens Police officers, from allegedly encouraging a rape complainant to make a statement while intoxicated to treating victims insensitively, or ignoring them, during ongoing investigations into their alleged assaults....
