Lloyd police officer who fired gun in Highland NY High School resigns
after investigation finds him at fault
HIGHLAND, N.Y. Sean McCutcheon, the resource officer who fired a shot from his service weapon in a hallway at Highland High School, has resigned from the Lloyd Police Department after an investigation concluded the incident, though unintentional, was due to officer error, the department said on Friday.
McCutcheon, a retired New Paltz police officer who had been the resource officer at Highland High School since early this year, was placed on leave while Lloyd police investigated the March 5 incident.
A single shot was fired from McCutcheons department-issued Glock 45 pistol at 1:38 p.m. that day as he was on foot patrol in a hallway at the school, police said at the time.
Lloyd police said on Friday that their investigation concluded McCutcheon had a lapse in judgment, unsecured his duty weapon and, in doing so, inadvertently discharged one round from his weapon into the floor.
McCutcheon was an active-duty Lloyd police officer who worked in the Highland schools through an agreement between the town and the district.
