With Islamophobia on Rise, Right-Wing Militias Threaten Communities in Kansas, Georgia [View all]
Two separate armed right-wing militias have threatened violence against Muslims in small towns in Georgia and Kansas, respectively,
as xenophobic rhetoric fuels Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's campaign.
In Kansas, three men claiming to be members of a right-wing militia called the Crusaders were arrested and charged on Friday for allegedly plotting to plant bombs in a Garden City, Kansas, apartment complex that is home to over 100 Somali immigrants.

Another armed militia has also terrorized a rural community in Georgia, the Guardian reported Thursday, with repeated threats of violence that have derailed efforts to construct a mosque in Newtown County, Georgia.
Newtown County is "solid Trump country," the newspaper notes.
The militia's members call themselves the "Three Percenters" (claiming that only three percent of American colonists fought against the British in the Revolutionary War; the real proportion is far higher, according to the Guardian).

Are these the "citizen militias" that the gun humpers speak of? Are these the "responsible gun owners" that are a part of every tortured excuse for the unlimited sale of deadly weapons to any Tom, Dick, or Harriet who waltzes in the neighborhood gun shop door?
Responsible gun owners my ass. Some gun owners are responsible, but there are entirely too many anti-social, right-wing, asswipes who hate everyone who is not white, right, and tight with the Tea Party religion of Falwell and Robertson.
It is past time to give the "well regulated" provision of the Second Amendment the legal mandate and muscle it deserves. The 40-50% of this country who really believe that the Constitution allows an armed insurrection against the US Government must be dealt with, and thorough background checks should weed out the most dangerous of them and prevent them from obtaining guns.
This is no longer a Constitutional debate -- it has become a matter of national security.
