Having Scorsese film it means it is lasting, and the legacy of all these tremendous performers is encapsulated in such a way that new audiences will continue to find it. 'Lots of stories behind it (beyond the documentary interjections... ) For example, Neil Young's cocaine snorting is evident from the residue under his nose (and yes, I adore Young, but like many of that time... ). Getting to see the Staples family (Pops, Mabel, and the sisters) was a joy. Muddy Waters-- a real blues legend. A perpetually awkward Bob Dylan (and Van Morrison)... New Orleans's "finest," Dr. John. The "truly thrilled to be there," Ronnie Hawkins. The amazing Paul Butterfield. So much talent including the Band, itself--among them my forever favorite, the late Levon Helm.
