14. A Guy I Played Basketball Against...

...in high school died of an aortic rupture due to Marfan's in his senior year.
He was the only guy I ever played against that made me say "Wow!"
In his sophomore year he was 6'5", a year later he was 6'9". Still growing.
And, he had a man's body. He was carved out of marble. His physique was shaped like a funnel! Strong as a bull!
His footwork was phenomenal, and because dunking wasn't allowed, he had a nice turnaround & a baby skyhook.
His was to be the first of John Thompson's great big men, early in Thompson's tenure as coach.
He was also a good student, so making the grade at G'town was unlikely to be a problem.
But, he died about a third of way through his senior season.
He blew a hole half the size of a dime in his aorta. Of course, no 911 & no cellphones in those days.
He was dead before the ambulance got there.
Very sad.
