Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley (Ore.) said on BuzzFeed‘s Twitter morning news show "AM to DM "that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) should not forego another presidential campaign due to his age.

Host David Mack asked Merkley how he thought Sanders should approach the 2020 presidential election.

"There's been a few people worried about the age of the current leadership in the party and Bernie Sanders is going to be 79 in 2020," Mack said. "Should he make clear he's not running and stand aside?"

Merkley brushed the concern aside.

"No, not at all. Not at all. He's vibrant, he's capable, he's determined. And he'll make his own choices down the road," Merkley said.
