If you beat someone up too badly you will eventually lose. You can beat someone to the extent that they form a grudge against you and you can beat someone to the extent that they seek revenge. That revenge can come in any form and at any time. When a victim eventually hides around a dark corner with a two by four and brutally exacts revenge, the bully will fear walking around dark corners. When a victim drops something from above the bully will always be looking up and trip over anything by always looking up.
We are always closer to the next war than we are to the next peace.
