NBC News on Hoffa's disappearance and first House CIA hearing 7/31/1975 [View all]

YouTube has the Vanderbilt TV News Archive's recording of NBC Nightly News anchored by John Chancellor on July 31, 1975, with commercials edited out. Here is an outline of the program.

The top story was about President Ford visiting Turkey to discuss military aid. Later in the show were these stories:

(10:10) Former Teamsters president James Hoffa went missing.

(12:29) The House CIA committee held its first public hearing, chaired by Rep. Otis Pike (D-NY). Under oath, the U.S. controller general admitted to not knowing the CIA's budget. At the time, there had not been a formal audit of the CIA since 1962.

NBC's primetime entertainment programming that day led off with a variety special hosted by Gladys Knight & the Pips, followed by the 1964 movie Flight From Ashiya starring Yul Brynner and Richard Widmark.
