The psychiatric condition where someone has an intense delusion that they are a king — or deserve to be one — is typically a type of delusional disorder, more specifically:

Grandiose Delusional Disorder (or Grandiose Type Delusional Disorder)

In this condition, the person has an unshakable belief in their own greatness, power, or importance, often believing they are a famous person, deity, or royalty — like a king. It’s part of the spectrum of psychotic disorders, and is categorized under Delusional Disorder, Grandiose Type in the DSM-5.

If this belief occurs in the context of mania (such as in Bipolar I Disorder) or schizophrenia, it can also be a grandiose delusion within those broader conditions.

So:
• Delusional Disorder, Grandiose Type – if it’s relatively isolated
• Schizophrenia or Bipolar Disorder – if it’s part of a larger psychotic or mood episode
