2. We had a new roof put on the house awhile back, not an easy job, but they showed up early, stayed late and did a great job

And even though this is northeastern New York, the crew was comprised of those from Mexico. I grew up in a fairly diverse community and I never thought of anyone as "different" than me. Nobody ever said anything, not my parents, not my teachers, not my grandparents, so I still don't get it. Everyone in this country comes from immigrants, whether recent or long ago. I have both. And my grandmother, whose Dutch ancestors settled here in the 1600s, told me that she was once given a hard time from a neighbor because of her lack of prejudice. She told me the neighbor said "Hazel, one of your children is going to grow up and marry an Eskimo!" I guess that was the minorist minority the woman could think of...
