(76,682 posts)A higher consciousness in no way equals being a victim. It's possible to have conversations with those you disagree strongly with, in a respectful way. When I worked at the mental health clinic, I was assigned to teach "dispute resolution" to the inmates at the county jail. Some of them actually learned from that. Likewise, men and women who were court-ordered to attend DV group sometimes learned some beneficial skills.
In a sense, I might be more relaxed in both communicating with damaged individuals and in not fearing physical or mentall aggression. I fought 329 bouts when I boxed. Never lost a street fight. And I remember John Lennon saying it is only those who were most violent that could become the most peaceful. Heck, my late friend Rubin Carter did that.
