So around 150/year isn't a bad guess. In early years, Colbert did more shows --over 200 in 2016. The number also is skewed somewhat by 2020 -2021, when Covid had an impact on the number of shows.
By way of comparison, the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson averaged over 220 episodes a year; however, in the later years of its run, Carson was replaced by a guest host -- most often Jay Leno -- quite a bit. In fact, in the show's penultimate season, Leno guested on over one-third of the 190 or so episodes.

I'm pretty sure NBC and CBS had pretty close to full VHF nationwide clearance all the way back in the '50s - ABC had 30

I too, lost interest, but he and his show always got me interested in what he has to say, just not enough to either

I basically stopped watching late night talk shows when I totally lost interest in current cinema - Hollywood stopped
