I went in for a checkup and they found that my ferritan levels were sky high. After months of testing (it was hard to get appointments during the pandemic) and seeing a liver specialist, the ruled out cancer but did detect that I have NAFLD. Non alcoholic fatty liver disease. An affliction that I apparently share with millions of Americans. Had it not been for the other issue, I would have never known. The liver has no nerves and you don't feel pain with liver disease. NAFLD can leaad to a number of bad health issues including cirrhosis of the liver and cardiovascular issues. In May of 2024 I went in for a physical and it was a wake up call. I had been pre-diabetic but my A1C had climbed to 6.4. I was significantly overweight largely due to eating a lot of take out fast food during the pandemic. I started the keto diet and cut out sugar and limit my carbohydrate intake to a small amount. I've dropped about 90lbs and my health has improved considerably. In March my A1C had dropped 10 points down to 5.4 and my blood pressure has dropped considerably. I suspect my doctor may have me drop the BP medication that I take. Another thing that happened was thst some skin conditions that I had cleared up. I had some skin tags on my temples and small psoriatic skin patches near each knee. They have both cleared up. Ive read the insulin resistivity can cause those issues. I also had an inflammed abdomen that prompted my doctor to schedule some ultrasounds for my liver and pancreas again. After dropping 90lbs and modifying my diet the inflammation is gone. I wont drink soda again, diet or otherwise. Most of the artificial sweeteners have issues as well. The only sweetener that I have on hand is liquid monkfruit but I rarely even use that.
