(2,858 posts)Trump is standing on the line that separates a constitutional Republic from an autocracy. But he's in a bad place politically and knows it, regardless his "Truth Social" propaganda machine rants and regardless all his acolytes' propaganda about the excellent job he's doing. The only successes he's had is filling the executive branch of the administration with the acolytes, apprehending a huge number of innocent immigrants and pursuing the retribution promise. The big, beautiful bill is a "success" for him but a bad bill for the country.
All the above, along with the tariffs, along with the Epstein report, along with whatever the hell else comes up, will sooner or later bring the chickens home to roost, which might result in the 2026 election restoring a Democrat majority in the Congress. But the MAGA goons are already working to swing the election in their direction so you can't bet on that.
The single thing that will get him on one or the other side of the line is respect for the rule of law. If he decides to defy the courts and the elected House and Senate Repugs allow it...game over.
