I was careful not to judge. I simply made an observation that stoked my curiosity. Am I critical of her choice? absolutely as I'm sure many other people would be.

Just to dig a little deeper though, it seems you're assuming she voted for trump as a result of the abuse. That's what I'm getting from your inclusion of your experience with abused people. I'm not making that same assumption.

I have a friend who, as an adult is finally realizing that he can't have a relationship with a father who did a lot of damage. He readily attributes dysfunctional behavior in anyone he sympathizes with as trauma since that's his experience. I've explained to him that trauma is not the only root of dysfunction in the population. As Malcolm X also said, some people are just figgin' pricks. OK, I can't find that he said that, but I'm pretty sure he thought it once or twice.
