It actually had a few versions dating to the late 19th century. It was not originally an anti-fascist anthem but a protest song sung by mondine, female seasonal workers in the rice fields of Italy's Po Valley.

Even not understanding the words the song is uplifting to me.

And I think my favorite version is now this one:
