very small amount which I donate monthly.

I get about two dozen surveys, petitions, and appeals for money a day in my email. It's down from three times that because I have gone through trying to unsubscribe from almost everything. I get a half dozen texts a day and about the same number of phone calls. I have no idea how many calls are political because I have left my voicemail full for months.

I sign about a half dozen petitions a day, it seems many are for the same causes by the same groups. I really believe that they just want money and emails of people who have their petitions forwarded to them.
But I get an email or two a day from "my" senators, house rep, or governor about some petition or the other
I NEVER give a penny to those groups sending me the emails.
So, yes, at least some of those groups send your name as a signatory to their petition to whichever politician.
