Cuomo also had the benefit of universal name recognition and lot and lots of major media who simply couldn't believe that some unknown upstart could ever beat the insider from the ruling family. And in the end, Mamdani got practically zero support from the establishment class of EITHER major party.
His own party simply acted as if he did not exist. And for good reason. Mamdani broke all the rules the Dem Party establishment and all the campaign managers have been following for 40 years or more. If he won, that SHOULD cause the Party to take a hard look at their own concepts of campaigns need to be run in the 21st Century and the Age of Trump.
Don't minimize what just happened. It had better be a teachable moment or else we are never going to get out of this hole. Maybe not every single thing Mamdani did translates to Austin or Mississippi. But much of it can.
