In reply to the discussion: It's true that sometimes you reach the point of diminishing returns [View all]Nanjeanne
(6,480 posts)11. Well it is true as you say ...
There are people that are going hungry. There are good, decent people, working without pay. There are millions...in fact...it may be a majority, of Americans that are living paycheck to paycheck.
And as of Jan 1 millions will be hungry and will be struggling how to pay for health insurance as they battle the rising prices. Then on Jan 30, those people who have worked without pay will once again be working without pay as they battle the government shutdown once again. Only this time they will be joined by the already starving millions.
The ACA is dead now. Even if the football isnt pulled - the subsidies wont pass or Trump will veto should they miraculously pass in the House and Senate.
And the momentum and excitement for the election we just had is gone. Voters who came out with enthusiasm will think long and hard about supporting a party that allows a handful of useless idiots to rob them of the healthcare they once had.
Schumer is no leader. Where was the threat to lose DNC money, the loss of committee seats, the support behind primary challengers?
I am horrified and demoralized and flabbergasted that for less than 3 months the TSA and air traffic controllers will be paid yet peoples premiums will be doubling and tripling and with their yearly deductibles and copays will pay tens of thousands of dollars each year and never get a penny back from an insurance co only for the privilege of doing it again the following year (if they even can afford to buy that) and thats supposed to be a win for the American people and they should thank the Democrats for keeping the government t open for 3 months.
Or maybe there wont be a government shutdown on January 30th because what would be the point? Just give the Republicans everything they want since thats the Democratic way it appears.

Democrats put a huge spotlight on the issue. Voters will know who to blame when they can no longer afford coverage.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. Democratic leaders were forced into a shutdown that never truly made much sense

It made some sense, I doubt the election a week ago would have turned out quite as well without it
