All is not lost. One step backward to take two steps forword. [View all]

Cruelty is the point, but we are better, stronger, and smarter than that. Here are a few of my personal observations. (Kinda long. Sorry.)

He and his MAGA toadies didn’t give an inch while millions of Americans suffered, and they will continue to suffer.

Democrats didn’t get the continuation of the ACA subsidies, and millions of our healthcare premiums are going to go through the roof.

Granted, we do get a vote in the Senate to change that in December, but we all know how that’s going to turn out. The Senate will likely vote it down. And if the Senate passes it, little Mikey Johnson likely won’t bring it up anyway.

Ultimately, it would require Trump‘s sharpie (or autopen) to pass it, and that is likely a non-starter in itself.

Truth is, even if the Senate actually put the ACA subsidies in this package, the House would have voted it down, and Trump would’ve vetoed it anyway.

Luckily, there is a silver lining in all of this.

MAGA has proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that they don’t care at all about their constituents. It’s all about themselves. Nothing more.

They have proven that they will let their constituents starve, lose their jobs, go broke and lose their healthcare, instead of backing away from their steady march toward authoritarianism.

They have proven these things, and a vast majority of the public sees it clearly.

Last Tuesday’s elections also proved beyond a shadow of a doubt which side the electorate is on. And if anything, this debacle will just harden voters’ opinions against them.

Then, come the end of January, Congress is likely to go through a similar shutdown. (They set themselves up for it.)

This time, though, Democrats have insured that SNAP will still continue and that most government jobs will be safe, including many government paychecks for the duration of any shutdown.

Democrats also saved the filibuster, protecting us from Trump creating his many visions of voter suppression. At least we can slow them down.

It’s not like the Democrats came away without winning anything. They did make modest gains.

Baby steps, people.

Trump and his cronies have screwed up the government so bad that it’s going to be a long, slow slog getting back to anything resembling normalcy.

So here is my prediction.

At the end of January, we will go through another long shutdown battle.

Trump will continue emulating Marie Antoinette. (He literally can’t help himself.)

He’s also gonna continue his obvious mental degeneration. It will be impossible to ignore.

Even more people will get pissed off at this administration and his cronies.

The high healthcare premiums might even cause the public to insist on Medicare for all.

By next November, the electorate is gonna be so pissed off that MAGA will be relegated to the dustbin of history. The term “blue tsunami” won’t be nearly adequate enough to describe the midterm election. MAGA will go down to a resounding defeat.

And even though one of them will still be in the White House, sanity will prevail in the House and the Senate, and he will be the lamest of lame ducks.

MAGA doesn’t have the capability of looking two steps ahead. They brought this on themselves, and they will eat it.

So everybody, keep your chins up. All is not lost, and much is to gain. Don’t change what you’re doing, just get louder.

We got this. 💙
