Putin doesn't always have to give Trump instructions; his staggering stupidity and narcissistic arrogance virtually assures that anything he does will ultimately serve Putin's interests. Strangling the standard delivery routes of oil tankers cripples the West's fuel dependency, and hamstrings the US economy. A win-win for Vlad The Impaler. It may also force Europe to reconsider its position on Russian oil and natural gas, reopening a critical revenue stream for Russia.
Nothing Trump says or does is ever in the best interests of this country. Everything has to serve his malicious intentions and his fragile ego at the moment. Forethought is not now, nor has it ever been, part of his makeup.
