In reply to the discussion: Number of Democratic voters who are 'extremely motivated' to vote in next election skyrockets [View all]Oopsie Daisy
(6,504 posts)What I find to be "strange" are those who can justify NOT voting for the Democrat and instead vote for (and/or advocate voting for) a third-party candidate who who has ZERO chance of winning, while pretending that a third-party candidate is rational strategic choice while simultaneously denying the real world of US politics, where only one of two candidates will win: either the Democrat or the Republican.
That's our system of government. That's how it works. Other than for virtue signaling, it makes zeros sense for anyone who considers themselves progresive to withhold support from the Democratic candidate, especially when considering shared goals and values, and considering the consequences of making it easier for the GOP candidate to win.
Additionally, I find it "strange" when someone's support for the Democratic candidate is conditioned on hare-brained demands that the our party's nominee renounce capitalism, or that our Democratic candidate pledge to fill his/her cabinet with Socialists. These types of bizarre and irrational demands clearly do not align with the party's platform or the broader electorate's interests.
It's a very "strange" tactic of promising to do things that harm and sabotage the Democratic party... and that weaken the party and that divide the party... instead, it would be better to productively engage with the Democratic party with realistic solutions, and advocate for reasonable specific policies that resonate with progressive and liberal values.
