They will literally "project" their own crimes onto someone else and force the recipient of such an accusation, to defend themselves.

Eventually, they will be exposed for their lies and guilt, but they know it takes time for that to happen, so by then, they have moved on to the next "projection".

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
