They came back on their own as it became clear that they could not convince senate Democrats to kill the filibuster for a national bill protecting voting rights in a way that could overcome what TX was then trying to do. That was after 38 days (mostly in DC)

In 2003 it was another mid-cycle redistricting effort and it was in OK.

In neither case were they arrested - though IIRC the governor did win a court ruling confirming that they could be seized if they were found in TX.
