30. Scalia's ruling made it clear what Rehnquist 5 were doing
Sat Aug 23, 2025, 05:01 PM
Saturday

Scalia admitted in broad daylight in his ruling that counting all of the uncounted Florida votes would harm his candidate W so he shredded the U.S. constitution and Florida election law to stop the legal Florida vote count to prevent W from being harmed. That had nothing to do with Roberts. In addition, judge Sandra Day O'Connor had been very public about wanting to retire and not wanting Al Gore to pick her SCOTUS successor. That also had nothing to do with Roberts. The Rehnquist 5 knew their decision was bogus because they all refused to sign their names to it. Al Gore is the one who was on the right side of history by fighting to have the uncounted Florida votes counted. The rest of the party leadership adopted a roll over and play dead strategy which is why our country suffers so terribly today. Had it been W with the uncounted Florida votes not being counted been repug votes, you can be sure that the Rehnquist 5 would've ruled to count the uncounted Florida votes and the repugs in Congress would not have rolled over and played dead

Of course not. That's exactly why Bush rewarded him and made him chief justice. ancianita Aug 21 #26

So be it. Your original point, however, ignores the reality of Roberts persuading the Rehnquist 5. ancianita Friday #29
