Hundreds of thousands of people marched in 80 cities. The protest of unions, students, and ordinary citizens asking for a ceasefire in Palestine and standing against military, political, and economic collaboration with the Israeli government took place and was for the most part peaceful.

The exceptions were a few violent groups that attacked Milan Central Station, a fact that has been turned into fodder for political arguments on the part of the majority parties.

Among the more positive marches was that in Rome, with over 50,000 present: police authorized a deviation of the march onto the tangenziale east (a beltway/highway), which was partially blocked for a short time.

Highways and beltways were also occupied in Bologna and Pisa, and the ports of Genoa, Livorno, and Marghera (Venice) were also blocked.
